God Cheated on Me

my scarred relationship with God — NOT completely broken

God Cheated on Me

Hello everyone,

This is Temi speaking, not Asycd. I’ve been pragmatizing and dwelling on this piece for a while because I was ashamed to even want to write about it in the first place.

I’m referring to my relationship with God — the title of this article. He cheated on me.

My Religious Background

My religious background is Christian by family, but personally it’s a lot more complex, and it has been this way for a while. If you asked me to legally declare my religion, I would still say Christian even to this day, but that just feels more accurate than saying “unsure” or “agnostic,” which I would argue might be closer to reality.

I’ve always felt that God is not a “human‑focused” being that cares what we actually do on this earth. It’s not a he or a she. It even feels wrong to call it an “it.”

It doesn’t give a damn about anything we do, nor does it care about our goals or whether we become successful or not — if we are poor or not, if we have red hair or black hair, if we are transgender or a helicopter. This was my underlying and intrinsic belief.

With that said, there was always someone I felt I could talk to in times of need — someone that seemed to help our family when we needed it most. This relationship was reinforced by my dear mum, who always gave praise to a God she couldn’t see, a God she swore would protect her and us. As long as she was here and we were safe, I could trust that God existed as a result.

“Everything happens for a reason”

Yes absolutely! The reason may not involve any reason at all though.

“It’s part of God’s plan”

You hear that saying a lot when things are going well, but not so much when they aren’t.

So God’s plan is for people to starve and for their homes to be destroyed by pointless wars? Is it part of the plan for a tiny portion of people to become wealthy at the expense of the majority? For someone to lose a major sports final while another becomes victorious? They both pray to the same God. Was it part of the plan for one of them to lose — simply because someone has to? Those are man‑made games where loss is built into the rules.

But what about things that aren’t man‑made — life itself? Is it part of the plan for your mum to die, or for your family members to tragically pass away in an accident?

That is exactly what happened to me. And from that moment on, my relationship with God has been fractured.

Relationships require effort right?

I can’t be upset with my partner because they don’t want to massage my feet right?

Most relationships require effort from both parties and sometimes, they may not act exactly in the way you expect them to.

I just expected more I guess. I have high standards so I don’t know if I can continue in this one💔

Not to ramble on but it’s like I was cheated on by someone I thought could never do such a thing.

That is the story of my relationship with God. Follow for more unfiltered stories like this.
