At Asycd, we are heavily invested in human expression—from our TEV2 thematic image algorithm that turns vague ideas into artwork, to our digital art exhibitions. We believe technology should serve people, broaden horizons, and facilitate real connections.
Sadly, those connections are being stifled by the current landscape of social media. People are being left out of the conversation both by choice and by design—a phenomenon known as the window shopping effect. By design, algorithmic feeds have turned platforms into broadcast networks where 90% of users are relegated to passive 'lurkers’, a habit that long-term studies from institutions like Baylor University directly link to a rising epidemic of loneliness. And by choice, users are actively retreating; data from tech watchdogs like Ofcom shows that active posting and commenting has plummeted from 61% to just 49% in recent years. We are no longer talking to each other; we are just staring through the glass."
Aside from the diminished desire to post, modern algorithms demand constant engagement, it forces everyone to play a game. Real ideas and opinions are swapped for consensus thinking and performance. We’ve been trained to optimize our personalities just to get a look-in on the feed.
