ACEDIA — MORE CARNAGE: A Manifesto Against Clean Thinking

Embracing the Glorious Mental Mess in an Age of Hyper-Optimized Wellness.

“ACEDIA” — MORE CARNAGE
“ACEDIA” — MORE CARNAGE

ABOUT THE ARTWORK?

The artwork is minimal, almost childlike. But it invites introspection. Viewers often find themselves searching for hidden meaning, wondering if they’ve missed something.

In a world obsessed with meaning and complexity, Asycd finds it worthwhile to step away from those demands in favour of creativity. To wander. To meander. To make without needing to explain.

But historical theology warns against this. It calls such detachment a danger — a spiritual laziness, a distraction from divine purpose.

ABOUT “ACEDIA”

Acedia is a state of spiritual and emotional detachment — a lack of desire, a loss of care for the world around you.

Historically, it’s known as the “Noonday Demon,” said to creep in between 10AM and 2PM, when the sun is high and the soul feels low. It was feared by monks for its ability to distract them from prayer, purpose, and divine connection in favour of meaningless activities.

It’s been called evil. We disagree.

Because what counts as “meaningless”? If it means wandering without a clear goal, exploring without a destination, then maybe meaningless is exactly what we need.

Acedia gives us space to create without judgement from yourself. One of the only times during the day you are able to create without needing to be useful. To sit in the chaos and see what rises.

ABOUT “MORE CARNAGE”

MORE CARNAGE is Asycd’s first open collaboration—a sequel to our acclaimed digital art collection, CARNAGE. This is a rebellion against sanitized imagination. We’re calling for works that would make an algorithm flinch: raw, surreal, politically charged, emotionally unfiltered.
